Rekonstruktionsarbeiten an der DILMUN S in Thüringen abgeschlossen – ABORA-Verein bereitet Pfingstfahrt in Chemnitz vor

(dg) Zehn Mitglieder des ABORA-Vereins haben am vergangenen Wochenende intensive Rekonstruktionsarbeiten an der Außenhülle des experimentellen Schilfboots DILMUN S durchgeführt. Ziel der zweitägigen Aktion war die fachgerechte Erneuerung der gealterten Schilfmatte unterhalb der Wasserlinie, um das historisch inspirierte Floß für die nächsten Törns wieder flott zu machen.
Verwendet wurde frisches Chinaschilf aus Tschechien, bereitgestellt vom Landwirtschaftsbetrieb Agronaro. Die handwerklich anspruchsvolle Arbeit bestand darin, die alte Matte oberhalb der Wasserlinie unversehrt zu belassen und lediglich den unteren, stark beanspruchten Teil sorgfältig Halm für Halm zu ersetzen. Dabei leistete der langjährige Förderer des Vereins, Falk Vollrath aus Weberstedt/Hainich, wertvolle Unterstützung vor Ort.
Mit der erfolgreichen Instandsetzung ist die DILMUN S nun bereit für ihren nächsten öffentlichen Auftritt: Auf den traditionellen Pfingst-Segeltagen wird das historische Floß auf dem Chemnitzer Schlossteich zu Wasser gelassen – ein Höhepunkt für den Kulturhauptstadt Event 2025 in Chemnitz. Außerdem wird die DILMUN S wieder zum Sommerfest von Nuoviso auf dem Geiseltalsee in Braunsbedra ihre Kreise ziehen, um die übernächste Herausforderung – Segeln auf der Mittelmeerinsel Sardinien – mit Manövern vorzubereiten!
Elf Jahre nach dem Bau der DILMUN S in Gotha kehrten 10 Vereinsmitglieder nach Thüringen zurück, um die in die Jahre gekommene DILMUN S wieder auf Vordermann zu bringen. Neben der Schilfmatte gab es auch jede Menge Arbeit an der Takelage und dem Segel. //

Die Schilfmatten aus einem Baumarkt haben ihre Aufgaben mehr als übererfüllt. Wir glaubten, dass sie kaum länger als 5 Jahre halten. Nun sind sie 11 Jahr alt! Wind und Wellen haben der unteren Schilfmatte mächtig zugesetzt, weshalb es jetzt an der Zeit ist, diesen Bereich zu rekonstruieren. //
The reed mats from a hardware store have more than fulfilled their purpose. We thought they wouldn't last more than five years. Now we're in the 11th year! Wind and waves have taken a heavy toll on the lower reed mat, so it's time to reconstruct this area.
Unser Handwerksmeister Sebastian Lepert hat in Auftrag kleine Keile angefertigt. Diese erleichterten das Einschieben der großen, starren Schilfhalme, um dem Segelfloß wieder eine ansehnliche Hülle zu geben. //

Drei Stunden Arbeit und ein Foto! Es zeigt, wie unsere Arbeiter Halm für Halm unter die Spirallasching schoben. Nicht nur eine anstrengende, sondern oftmals auch schmerzhafte Arbeit. Das Chinaschilf ist sehr widerborstig. Dadurch endete mancher Schilfhalm im Hautgewerbe unserer Mitstreiter… //

Nach zwei Tagen Arbeit war der Heckteil an der Backbordseite wieder in Schuss! Die gelben Schläuche sind die Wasserausläufe aus den Wassertanks unseres Funktionsrepliks. Diese sollen für den nötigen Tiefgang auf dem Wasser sorgen, damit der Segler auch bei starkem Wind stabil bleibt. //
After two days of work, the stern section on the port side was back in working order! The yellow hoses are the water outlets from the water tanks on our functional replica. These are designed to provide the necessary draft on the water so that the sail stays stable on course even in strong winds.

Das Schilfteam am Ende der Bauarbeiten. Beide Seiten wurden bis oberhalb der Unterwasserlinie vom Bug zum Heck erneuert. Das übrige Schilf wurde sorgfältig eingelagert, um in ein paar Jahren die Matte oberhalb der Wasserlinie zu verschönen. Nach den Arbeiten wurde die DILMUN S wieder ins Lager geschoben und für den anstehenden Transport nach Chemnitz/Sachsen vorbereitet. //

The remaining reeds were carefully stored to beautify the mat above the waterline in a few years. After the work, the DILMUN S was pushed back into storage and prepared for the upcoming transport to Chemnitz, Saxony.
Reconstruction work on the DILMUN S in Thuringia completed – ABORA Association prepares for Whitsun trip to Chemnitz

The goal of the two-day project was to professionally renew the aged reed mat below the waterline to make the historically inspired raft ready for future use.
Fresh Chinese reed from the Czech Republic, provided by the Agronaro agricultural company, was used. The technically demanding work involved leaving the old mat above the waterline intact and carefully replacing only the lower, heavily used section, stalk by stalk. The association's long-time supporter, Falk Vollrath from Weberstedt/Hainich, provided valuable on-site support.
With the successful overhaul, the DILMUN S is now ready for its next public appearance: On the traditional Whitsun sailing days, the historic raft will be launched on the Chemnitz Castle Lake – a highlight for the 2025 Capital of Culture event in Chemnitz. Furthermore, the DILMUN S will once again be making her rounds at the Nuoviso summer festival on Lake Geiseltal in Braunsbedra, where she will be practicing manoeuvres to prepare for the next challenge – sailing on the Mediterranean island of Sardinia!
