Entdeckten die Römer Amerika?
Neuer Fund auf Oak Island gibt Anlass für neue Spekulationen
(dg) Dass die Römer lange vor den Wikingern und Spaniern Amerika entdeckt haben könnten, wird schon seit Jahrzehnten diskutiert. Diese Kontroverse wurde vor allem durch ältere „Weltbeschreibungen“ antiker Gelehrten, wie von Erasthostenes (300 v. Chr.), Diodor v. Sizilien (200 v. Chr.) und auch Plutarch (ca. 100 n. Chr.), ausgelöst. Letzterer beschreibt eine mögliche Seereise römischer Exploratoren von Großbritannien über Island und vermutlich Grönland in Richtung Nordamerika.
Die Jahre lange Schatzsuche der beiden Michigan Brüder Rick und Marty Lagina hat auf der kleinen Nordatlantikinsel Oak Island neben anderen spektakulären Funden ein römisches Schwert ans Tageslicht gefördert. Ist dieser Fund nur das Ergebnis jüngerer Verschleppungen oder entdeckten die Römer tatsächlich 1.500 Jahre vor Kolumbus Amerika?
Zwei Brüder haben das Unmögliche geschafft. Sie entdeckten auf der sagenumwobenen Oak Island viele rätselhafte Artefakte, die starke Hinweise liefern, dass auf dieser Insel einst Merkwürdiges stattgefunden hat! Das Team um Rick und Marty Lagina gruben im Jahr 2015 auch ein Bronzeschwert aus, das in Form und Machart den Römern zu zuschreiben ist.
Auf der Nachrichtenseite „Boston Standard“ schrieb J. Hutton Pulitzer: „Ich bin überzeugt, dass es die bisher wichtigste Entdeckung für den amerikanischen Kontinent ist […] Die Geschichte muss neu geschrieben werden.“ Was er meint, ist, dass der Fund des Römerschwerts vor der Küste von Oak Island in Kanada zu „100 Prozent echt“ sei. Der Fund wurde ausführlich in History Channel (USA) in der Reality-TV-Show “The Curse of Oak Island” in der 3. Staffel dokumentiert.
Wie dieses Artefakt auf die abgelegene Insel gelangte, bleibt für alle Beteiligten ein Rätsel. Tatsache ist, dass das Schwert bei Weitem nicht der einzige antike römische Fund jenseits des Atlantiks ist. Angesichts neuer römischer Funde sowohl auf den Kanaren (Insel Lobos) als auch auf den Azoren (römische Columbarien auf Terceira und San Miguel) muss dieser Schwertfund in der Archäologie mehr Berücksichtigung finden. Nach der Zerstörung Karthagos durch die Römer wurde das Karthagische Reich 146 v. Chr. aufgelöst und ging im römischen Reich auf. Es gilt als ziemlich gesichert, dass die Römer nach und nach auch die karthagischen Handelsrouten übernahmen und so ihre Gründungen auf den atlantischen Inseln in Angriff nahmen. Fanden sie bei diesen Hochseereisen absichtlich oder per Zufall auch den Weg nach Amerika?

Die beiden römischen Columbarien auf den Azoren liefern dafür stichhaltige Argumente. Die Befahrung der Azoren ist sehr schwierig und von Iberien in direkter Route nicht zu schaffen. Aus diesem Grund untermauern die beiden Begräbnisstätten mitten im Atlantik die Möglichkeit, dass es sich hier um dauerhafte Zwischenstationen römischer Handelsnetze gehandelt haben könnte. //

Auch auf der neuweltlichen Seite sprechen zahlreiche Funde für die Theorie, dass schon in der Antike mehrere Völker temporär den Seeweg in die Neue Welt meisterten. Berühmt ist die Gunabara Bay in der Nähe von Rio de Janeiro. Das ist aber bei Weitem nicht der einzige Fund! //

Did the Romans discover America?
New find on Oak Island gives rise to new speculation
The fact that the Romans discovered America long before the Vikings and Spaniards has been discussed for decades. This controversial discussion was mainly fueled by older "world descriptions" by ancient scholars such as Erathostenes (ca. 300 B.C.), Diodorus v. Sicily (ca. 200 B.C.) and also Plutarch (ca. 100 AD). The latter describes a possible voyage by Roman explorers from Great Britain via Iceland and probably Greenland towards North America.
Years of treasure hunting by the Michigan brothers Rick and Marty Lagina have brought a Roman sword to light along with other spectacular finds on the small North Atlantic island of Oak Island. Is this finding just the result of recent deportations or did the Romans actually discover America 1,500 years before Columbus?
Two brothers have achieved the impossible. They discovered many mysterious artifacts on fabled Oak Island that provide strong evidence that something strange once happened on this island! In 2015, the team led by Rick and Marty Lagina also unearthed a bronze sword that can be attributed to the Romans in shape and style.
On the Boston Standard News Site, J. Hutton Pulitzer wrote, "I am convinced that this is the most important discovery ever made for the Americas... History must be rewritten." What he means is that the discovery of the Roman sword off the coast of Oak Island in Canada is "100 percent genuine". The find was extensively documented on History Channel (USA) Season 3 reality TV show “The Curse of Oak Island”.
How this artifact ended up on the remote island remains a mystery to everyone involved. The fact is that the sword is far from the only ancient Roman find on the other side of the Atlantic. In view of new Roman finds in both the Canary Islands (Lobos Island) and the Azores (Roman columbaria on Terceira and San Miguel), this new sword find must be given more consideration in archeology. After the destruction of Carthage by the Romans, the Carthaginian Empire was founded in 146 B.C. dissolved and became part of the Roman Empire. It is considered fairly certain that the Romans gradually took over the Carthaginian trade routes and thus began their foundations on the Atlantic islands. Did they also find their way to America on purpose or by chance during these high seas voyages?
